Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Consumer Education Council of North America (CECNA) announces the release of its latest online course, Finding the Love of Your Life: A Consumers Guide to Romance, now available in the CECNA Learning Center.
The course was developed by sociologist and relationship/productivity coach Jan Yager, Ph.D., and is based on her international hit book, 125 Ways to Meet the Love of Your Life. It takes a time management approach to the all-important search for romance.
“More U.S. consumers are living alone today than at any time in recent history,” said James R. Hood, CECNA Founder and CEO. “While some may prefer the solitary life, we know that millions of people are searching for a new love interest, and many of them are wasting valuable time because they lack a clear-cut plan for accomplishing their goal.”
After her first marriage ended in divorce and 12 years of dating without finding the love of her life, Yager decided to apply her time management expertise for a more productive search. The system worked for her and it’s been helping men and women since the first edition of her book was published in 2004 with translations in 12 languages.
“There are examples of those who just stumble on to romance, but for most of us, including me, I needed to make a concerted effort beginning with getting clearer about what I was looking for in a date/mate. I am so glad I didn’t listen to those who told me to just ‘let it happen,’” Yager said. “I am so grateful that Jim Hood and the Consumer Education Council of North America helped me to turn my expertise and book into this new online course that will benefit so many!”
Setting priorities, building a strategy
The course is divided into three parts. The first establishes the importance of setting priorities. The second part highlights dozens of effective ways of searching for romance while the third builds on the first two sections and helps the consumer identify the most effective methods for his or her individual situation.
Throughout the course, consumers are cautioned about the need to stay safe during their search.
“Since I also am a criminologist/victimologist,” says Dr. Yager, “it was important to include a section in the book and the related course on staying safe during the search! How to avoid being the victim of a dating scam, or worse, is key!”
The course is asynchronous – meaning it uses text, photos, graphics and frequent quizzes and other interactive tools to maintain user interest and increase retention. Unlike Webinars and Zoom sessions, learners work at their own pace wherever they happen to be. It is fully compatible with smartphones, tablets and both laptops and desktop computers. There is no surprise audio, so consumers can take the course at work, on the bus or subway or in a coffee shop without disturbing others.
CECNA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, founded in 2021 by Hood, who previously founded ConsumerAffairs.com, FairfaxNews.com, Zapnews and other publishing ventures. He is a former Associated Press and United Press International executive based in the Washington, D.C. area.
